On Wednesday 15th January, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with Cattle: sheep including prime hoggs and cast ewes and rams.
22 prime cattle forward with all selling to a flying trade. Limousin heifer sold to £3.96ppkg (£2436.28) from Messrs Lawson & Sons, Hundith House, bought by Haighs butchers, Workington. Other smooth Limousin heifers sold to £3.86ppkg from JJ Crichton, Loughrigg was sold to another local butcher, WilsonWillis, Cleator Moor. A run of well finished heifers from Newbiggin Farms sold to a top of £3.74ppkg. Bullocks sold to £3.28ppkg for a Blonde d’Aquitaine from MW Hewitson, Shatton Lodge. A wonderful Limousin bull from PE & M Capstick, Whicham Hall sold to £3.66ppkg (£2551.19).

Topping the sale was a cracking Beltex from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills selling to £242 purchased by Tony Harrrison Butcher, Cockermouth. Texels also selling to £240 from W&E Gate, Rook Farm again purchased by Tony Harrison, Cockermouth.
