On Wednesday 12th February, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with Cattle: sheep including prime lambs and cast ewes and rams.
Today we held our Sale of 35 Lake District Prime Cattle selling to a whopping average of 383.76ppk!!
Topping the sale was at 449.50ppk tremendous British Blue Cross Heifer from JJ Crichton, Loughrigg bought by local Butcher Tony Harrison, Main Street, Cockermouth.
A tremendous run of cattle were forward from Newbiggin Farms selling to a fantastic average of 395.39ppk.
Prime Bulls topped at 405.50ppk for a Limousin Bull weighing 558ppk grossing at £2262.69.
Steers averaged 384.18ppk
Heifers averaged 385.65ppk
Bulls averaged 357.14ppk
40 Cull cattle were forward selling to an average of 245.03ppk.
Top price was awarded to an outstanding British Blue from Matthew Benson, Horrace Farm, Ulverston selling for 347.50ppk grossing at £247.68.

Hoggs sold to 450ppk for a Texel from W&E Gate, Rook Farm. Mule hoggs were in massive demand with a ring full of 48kg selling to £155 from PT&SM Hewitson, Byresteads, others sold to £151 from J Shephard & Son, Low House Farm, best fed mules hoggs selling 320ppk – 325ppk, Mules topped at 333ppk for a pen from Ms Richardson, Low Garth. Hill bred hoggs saw cheviot sell to £178 with Herdwicks selling to £144 from P & J Bland and Swaledales to the same price from AG & KF Nicholson.
