Primestock - Wednesday 26th February

On Wednesday 26^th February, Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth, held their weekly sale of primestock with Cattle: sheep including prime lambs and cast ewes and rams.

 

A strong show of 32 Cattle were forward.

Topping the sale ring was an Angus Bull from LM&C Whitaker, Scalderskew, weighting 1095kg selling for 251.5ppk totalling £2753.93. Following behind was a Limousin cow from R&S Purdham, Low Boonwood weighing 760kg selling for 281.5ppk totalling £2139.40.

A good show of Dairy cows were forward, with the top price being for a Holstein cow from The Hewitson Family weighing 772kg selling for 267.50ppk totalling £2066.10.

8 Prime Bulls were forward this week, topping was a Hereford Cross from Ms Teasdale, Low Side Farm weighing 732kg selling for 359.50ppk totalling £2631.64.

More cows are needed on the week to fulfill the orders for our competitive ringside of buyers.

Another great entry of 1535 prime hoggs were forward today. All hoggs sold to another strong ringside of buyers here at Mitchells. Heavy weighted hoggs were another sharp trade, topping at £250 for a Texel from TA Jefferson, Aspatria Hall. With a Beltex selling to £246 from A&D Smith, Kelmore Hills. A total of 38 pens sold over the £200 mark. Suffolk hoggs sold to £210 from S&D Peile, Parkgate.

Handy weighted continental hoggs sold to another cracking trade, well finished commercial hoggs selling between 350ppk to 360ppk, with the better types 380ppk to 400ppk. More hill bred hoggs on offer, mules sold to a top of £169 from JD&M Capstick, Fellside Farm, other pens of mules selling to £162 from P&PI Walker&Son, Beechcroft. Swaledales sold to a top of £150 from JD&M Capstick, Fellside Farm. Herdiwcks sold to £147 from BK Rowand&Son, other pens to £137 from JR Weir, Elva Plain.
