Today Mitchells Auction Company held their fortnightly sale of Store Cattle, Stirks & Calves also Store Lambs.
280 Store hoggs sold to a flying trade for all types from the full ring side of buyers. Topping the section was a pen of Texel Hoggs from JC Rothery, Far Bank selling for £141. Beltex sold to £140 from R Barnes, Whitekeld. Many pens of strong hoggs sold from £130-£135. A ring full of Texel cross Herdwicks from D Thompson. Hill bred hoggs created interest from buyers and topped at £117 from G & A Crayston, Thornholme with plenty making over the £100 mark, longer keep sorts making £70-£80.

The store cattle trade just keeps coming here at Mtchells. Dairy bred Aberdeen Angus Bullocks selling to £2020 from Messrs Greening, Waerbank. Limousin Bullocks sold to £1960 from J Brown & Sons, Crakeplace Hall. Yearling bullocks were the trade of the day – 8 months old Blues selling to £1780 from J A Ritson, Baggra Yeat, Uldale with many making £1700 plus.
Heifers sold to £1840 from T Jenkinson, Croftlands. Angus Heifers sold to £1800 from Messrs Greening, Waverbank. A pen of five Angus Heifers (17 mths) sold to £1790 from Stamper Bonny Ltd. Yearling suckler bred hifers sold to £1580 from T Jenkinson, Croftlands.
Store bulls sold to another strong trade here at Mitchells. Fleckvieh bulls sold to £1820 from B Sykes, Baldmire who also sold Angus for £1790. A lovely run of 8mths old Angus Bulls from LM&C Whitaker, Scalderskew made £1540.

RJ&JM Sewell, Woodside sold Blue Bulls to £680 and Hereford Bulls to £630. Hereford Heifers from the same home to £600. Weaned stirks sold to a strong trade, topping at £910 for a 5 mths Charolais heifer from J Stubbs, Syke Beck who also sold Charolais Bulls to £860.

A small show of breeding bulls were forward but plenty of quality. Topping the sale at £5200 for a Limousin Bull from DJ&MJ Hoggarth, Old Hall, Limousin Bulls sold to £4000 twice from GL Hutton, Setmabanning.
