A Japanese Satsuma tea set, with teapot, cream jug, sugar jug, two teacups and six saucers. Provenance: Captain Robert N Walker (1851-1941) and then by descent to the present owner. Captain Walker was born in Maryport and first visited Japan in 1868 when it was a closed country. It was the start of a lifelong connection with the country. His Company R N Walker & Co lasting four decades in the European settlement in Nagasaki.
