A fine suite of Empire giltwood seat furniture by Pierre Benoit Marcion, comprising a pair of fauteuils and four side chairs, each with upholstered square back, over stuffed seat and raised on turned tapering front legs, each stamped P Marcion and T.H. along with The Tuileries Fleur de Lys stamp (representative of an inventory of royal items undertaken at the Palais des Tuileries during the Restoration period circa 1815) French circa 1810. PROVENANCE - The Tuileries Palace. NOTE - Sold with copy receipt from Mallett dated May 2000 at a discounted purchase price of £74,765. Marcion was one of the foremost Parisian cabinet makers during the early 19th century and was active from 1798 until retirement in 1817. After the great Jacob Dynasty he was the next most significant supplier of furniture to Napoleon (see illustration).
