A large 18th century Continental tin glazed earthenware bird cage, the double domed top decorated with three bands of stylised acanthus leaf decoration above an armorial shield within a running band of scrolling acanthus leaves, the flared neck with a narrow band decorated with a diaper motif border above a larger band decorated with a repeat stylised acanthus leaf band and three small struts decorated with a repeat of the diaper border. The cylindrical body divided by eight vertical struts and six horizontal bands, the eight struts decorated with embossed florets and trailing S scrolls with wire cage work. The base decorated with a repeat of the stylised acanthus leaf decoration. Probably Dutch circa 1780. Diameter 33 cm, height 56 cm.
