NOTE - Sami (Jane Buckmaster) lived in Kendal next to Joan David who was the main correspondent of Kelly in his last decade. Kelly wrote to her when Jane told him she was seriously ill with cancer. His wife Christine had left him a few months before and he was desperately lonely. He sometimes signed his letters "Roberta" (his alter ego) depending on his mood (see illustration). ARR
