NOTE: The owner of the painting has done quite considerable research into it and has established that it is likely to be from the "Studio of Gavin Hamilton". It seems that the painting clearly pre-dates the Cunego engraving and is not copied from the engraving. It may be that this example is a Modello for "The Anger of Achilles for the Loss of Briseis". the painting is also sold with Brendan Cassidy's work "The Life and Letters of Gavin Hamilton" volumes I and II (see illustration).
