A World War II German Third Reich police dagger, with eagle shaped pommel, stag antler scales with swastika and eagle and oak leaves to the cross guard, the blade marked Karl Eickhorn Solinge, the cross guard also marked L.M.236, blade length 13", overall length 44 cm, with leather sheath and frog, the frog marked 1938. NOTE: The dagger was taken by Cecil Frederick Rose who was a dispatch rider World War II being a Trooper Army No. 7920310 in the Fifth Royal Enniskillen Dragoon Guards, which was part of the Royal Armoured Corps, he was posted overseas from 19/7/1944 to 30/12/1945, Mr Rose acquired the dagger when he visited Bergen Belsen Prisoner of War Camp only a couple of days after the camp was discovered and that the dagger had belonged to one of the officers that had been running and guarding the camp. Mr Rose had been sent with dispatches with his own regiment who were in the area at the time. Bergen Belsen Camp had been liberated by The British 11th Armoured Division on 15th April 1945, Mr Rose noted that he could smell the camp from 5 miles away, the smell he said was unforgettable, he lost his sense of smell that day and never recovered it.
