On Wednesday 1st May 2019 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held the weekly sale of primestock with 58 cattle comprising 45 cull cattle and 13 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1397 prime sheep including 30 spring lambs, 956 hoggs and 411 cast ewes and rams. Top price per kilo was a Limousin bull from WE Callion & Sons, Lodge Farm selling at 200.5 pence per kilo (ppk) to TL Fell. An increased entry of Store cattle sold to another strong trade with a full ringside of buyers in attendance. Heifers sold to a top price of £1185 for a Limousin from Messrs Crowe, Hall Santon, Gosforth. Steers topped at £1145 twice both times from GA Stamper, Row Brow Park, Dearham. A good entry of 220 Store Cattle sold to fantastic rates being even dearer on the fortnight. The sale was topped at £1305 twice; firstly for a tremendous Limousin Steer from Messrs Hodgson, Croft End, Beckermet and then again for a super yearling Limousin Steer from the same parish off Messrs Sharp, Holmecroft.
