Provenance: Langdale Chase Hotel. NOTE: This fireplace was an Edwardian addition to the Hotel and not part of the original listed design (see illustration).

A 17th century and later Baroque carved fire surround with mantle, heavily carved with caryatid style figures, coats of arms and floral and animal decoration, carved with date 1664 and with inscription Nicholas Tyfton Earl of Thanet and Elizabeth Countess of Thanet. 210 cm wide. Provenance: Langdale Chase Hotel. NOTE: This fireplace was an Edwardian addition to the Hotel and not part of the original listed design (see illustration).

This fire surround was commissioned by Lady Anne Clifford of Appleby Castle in 1664 to celebrate the marriage of her grandson Earl Nicholas. It was most likely installed in one of the larger chambers and history does not relate as to when it was removed.
