Lot 827

An early 20th century rare antique leaping lion automaton, probably by Roulette and Decamps, with nodding head and opening and closing jaws. On the fourth nod the hind legs fold down to a crouching position and then the body pounces. Moulded and shaped papier mache with short hair hide with bushy mane, glass eyes, painted teeth and tongue detail, with swept tail with start/stop mechanism to the underside and complete with winder. Length 45 cm. NOTE: Originally purchased at Hamleys, London (see illustration).

A Grande Sonnerie alarm carriage clock, with seconds dial and engraved case signed Le Roy and Fils, Palais Royal Galerie Montpensier, 13 and 15, Paris, 296 Regent Street London, No. 6593 circa 1880, the gorge case with bevelled glass panels and engraved decoration throughout, repeat button and carrying handle to the top of the case, the underside with central white enamel dial, signed with a seconds dial at 12, alarm dial and twin barrel movement with platform lever escapement, the Petite/Grande Sonnerie striking has two hammers striking onto two polished bells, another hammer strikes a bell for the alarm, the backplate is signed by the maker and numbered 6593. Height 17.5 cm to top of handle, with travelling case and two keys. NOTE: This carriage clock is in full working order (see illustration).
