A Regency mahogany secretaire linen press, attributed to Gillows, in two sections, the top half with a moulded arched pediment above a crossbanded frieze in turn above a pair of well figured doors enclosing pullout trays, the base fitted with one long secretaire drawer with oval centre medallion, brass knob handles and interior fitted to a Gillows design above three further drawers with brass knob handles and raised on bracket feet. Width 49.5 ins (see illustration). NOTE - this piece of furniture bears all the attributes of Gillows of Lancaster. Interestingly, it has a pencil signature underneath the bottom drawer dated 1st May 1811"T. Atkinson". T Atkinson was a cabinetmaker known to have worked in Lancaster in the Regency period.
