On Wednesday 23rd October 2019 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 77 cattle comprising 68 cull cattle and 9 prime bulls, 1744 prime sheep including 1216 lambs and 528 cast ewes and rams. A larger entry of cows met a brisk trade from the usual ring of buyers, the resulting trade was satisfactory, in line with the recent market trend. The Annual Show and Sale of Lakeland Suckled Calves saw a marvellous show of quality cattle which was a credit to the vendors. The Show was judged by Mr David Jarman who commented on the great quality put before him. Overall Champion went to the first prized Limousin Heifer from I&R Millard, Old Hyton and later achieved the days top price of £1120 selling to the judge. On Wednesday 16th October 2019 Mitchells Livestock Centre, Cockermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 47 cattle comprising 39 cull cattle and 8 prime bulls, 2388 prime sheep including 1925 lambs and 463 cast ewes and rams. Mitchells Livestock Auction Mart held the Annual Show and Sale of Swaledale Rams.  The sale was kindly sponsored by Mitchells Auction Mart with judging in the capable hands of Mr Ian Armstrong.  After some deliberation the Lawson Family Trophy for the Champion Swaledale Tup was awarded to the Shearling Ram from DW & AS Noble, Burblethwaite.  Reserve honours went to an Aged Ram from GW Whitfield, Low Stowbank.
